Dogs are often referred to as “man’s best friends” for good reason. But regrettably, not all dogs are fortunate enough to have a loving home. Sri Lanka is home to over three million stray dogs, most of whom suffer immensely as victims of malnutrition, untreated diseases, and mistreatment generally caused by humans.
But all hope isn’t lost as every single year, animal shelters take in hundreds if not thousands of dogs into their protection and care.
But running a shelter is no easy task. It requires immeasurable love, dedication, and resources to provide a haven for countless cats and dogs who would, otherwise, be alone, vulnerable, and helpless on the streets. That’s where the Leo Club of Royal College comes in. The “K9 Initiative” is the expedition organised in an effort to provide these shelters with the supplies they need to continue their noble work.
You don’t have to be an animal lover to contribute; you just have to be human.
The Leo Club of Royal College to implores the public in contributing towards this worthy cause and make a difference. By donating required items for these shelters, The Leo Club ensures that these animals receive the love, attention, and care they need to thrive. Regardless of whether it’s by donating blankets, food, or toys, every contribution counts.
The Leo Club of Royal College concluded the K9 Initiative on May 5, at the “AWPA SL” shelter in Kahathuduwa.
“We achieved this by donating essential items such as rice, puppy food/dog food, and medicine upon surveying the shelters. There are moments in life when we are reminded of the true essence of our being, and helping the shelter was one of those moments.
As we gave our time and love to those in need, our hearts overflowed with a sense of purpose and fulfilment. It is in these selfless acts that we truly see the best version of ourselves, and as Leos, we felt a deep sense of pride in fulfilling our duty to serve our community,” said a representative of The Leo Club of Royal College.
“Let’s ensure these dogs are given a second chance at life. Through our dedication to serve, our efforts have helped create a caring, compassionate, and engaged community, and have shown the influence of youth leadership in creating a positive change,” he said.
