White sandalwood trees

Ven. Arampola Sugathawansa Thera, Viharadhipathi of the Veherabendihinna historical temple at Pathkolagolla in the Galewela Divisional Secretariat division calls upon the authorities to take action to protect the temple premises abound with white sandalwood trees and artefacts.

According to the Thera, a large number of white sandalwood trees have been stolen by lumberjacks.

An ancient Dagoba recovered by the Archaeological authorities through excavations at the site has been renovated.

There are nearly 300 white sandalwood trees in the temple premises. According to Ven. Sugathawansa Thera, these trees had been planted by an Arahat Thera who had been meditating at the place. “The temple had been without a bhikkhu for some time. It has been 15 years since I came to this temple.

But still I could not erect a protective fence around the land which is 25 acres due to financial difficulties,” The Thera said.
