Four multi-storied car parks for Colombo

Four multi-storied car parks are being built in Colombo city with the aim of reducing the  urban congestion caused by the daily traffic in Colombo city and suburbs. Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said these car parks are being built by the Urban Development Authority with the contribution of the public sector and the private sector.

These car parks are to be constructed at the Telecom car park behind the Lake House, the Old Fish Market and Narahenpita areas.

Among them, the Union Place public car park located in Colombo 02, which was built with the assistance of the private sector, was handed over to the public yesterday by Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

The car park has been constructed by Access Engineering at a cost of Rs.1,400 million. The ownership is transferred to the Urban Development Authority after 30 years.

This eight-storeyed car park has the capacity to park around 300 vehicles. The operation of the car park has been computerized. Complete security of all parked vehicles is provided and twenty percent of the monthly income will be transferred to the Urban Development Authority.
