Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Dr. Bandula Gunawardena laid the foundation stone for the replica of the Aukana Buddha statue to be built at the Homagama - Pitipana intersection on Thursday.
The thirty foot statue being built based on a concept of Minister Gunawardena will be funded by the Minister himself.
The Chief Incumbents of the Homagama Sri Sugatha Bimbarama Vihara, Homagama Purana Vihara and Pitipana Uttararama Vihara were present.
