UGC Chairman proposes separate varsity for computer and IT degrees

University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunge has proposed to the Government to explore the possibility of setting up a separate state university for undergraduates interested in following university degrees in Computer and Information Technology.

This will provide academic opportunities for students keen on following higher degree courses in Sri Lanka, the UGC chairman told the Sunday Observer.

Prof. Amaratunge presented this proposal when he was invited by the Special Parliamentary Committee recently to present recommendations for higher education development programs in Sri Lanka.

Prof. Amaratunge also presented recommendations to be considered for the betterment of undergraduates to study at state universities.
