A Transport Ministry spokesman yesterday said that the Ministry has been informed that the Sri Lanka Railways, Sri Lanka Transport Board and private buses will not join in the strike which is scheduled to take place this week.
All economic activities of the country will be crippled if public transport is stopped, so the people should not be made to suffer any more at this critical hour at a time when the country’s economy is in dire straits, he said.
The Public Transport Employees’ Union states that since the public transport including trains has been made an essential service, it has informed its members to avoid falling into traps of political elements with vested interests.
