University enrolments in shortest time

23 February, 2023

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has managed to enrol the new batch of students for universities in the shortest period of time in the history of Sri Lankan universities.

UCG Chairman Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunga said the enrolment of students for universities was completed in nine weeks by releasing the Z Score with the issuance of 2021 Advanced Level examination results by the Examinations Department last November.

The recruitment of students for the university was not done until the re-evaluation of the answer papers was completed. He said that arrangements have been made this time after the results were released

As the student handbook required for university admission has been released to the market along with the issuance of 2021 GCE Advanced Level results, the UGC provided opportunities for students to apply for admission quickly, so it has been possible to shorten the relevant time.

Accordingly, academic activities of all Medical Faculties, three Management Faculties have commenced.

The University Grants Commission Chairman further stated that they are currently recruiting students for Engineering Faculties in March and Arts Faculties.

583 more students have been admitted to the university through re-evaluation process, and with that, the total number of students who are eligible for university admission this year is close to 43,000.
