12 February, 2023

The Muslim community that thrills with a deep rooted history of over 1200 years in Sri Lanka has obtained its renaissance in the fields of education and built its cultural values under the shade of Sufi Tareeqas. This is a fact proved by the civilisation of Sri Lankan Muslims.

It is well known that the Shazuliyya Tareeqa that has a direct and unprecedented continuous impact on the development of Morocco, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Yemen and India in the aspects of education and culture, has played a big role in educating Sri Lankan Muslims in Islamic studies that paved the way of co-existence with all Sri Lankans in peace and harmony.

This book compiled by Dr. Fahmy Ismail, President of Iththihaad Ahlissunnathi is the first published English book that highlights all information of Shazuliyya spiritual order and that of its Fasiyya branch being followed by thousands of Muslims all over the world. Questions such as: What is a Tareeqa? What is its importance in the life of a Muslim? When was the Fassiyyathush Shazuliyya Tareeqa introduced to Sri Lanka? are researched and answered in this book and clearly and theoretically written with proof by the author.

He has brought to light the biographies of His Holiness Imamul Aalam Abul Hasan Ali Ash Shazuly (Ral) the founder of Shazuliyya Order along with that of His Holiness Sheik Mohamed Bin Mohamed Al Fasy Al Shazuly (Ral) with their lineages as well as the historical visits of his disciples to Sri Lanka and the services rendered by them for the uplift and well-being of Sri Lankan Muslims from 1860CE.

The book contains in its folds the main rituals of Shazuliyya Tareeqa such as Waleefa and Yakoothiya along with other important recitals, invocations and supplications including the well known recital of Hizbul Bahr and the advice and sayings of Imamul Aalam Abul Hasan Al Shazuly (Ral)

The book is a gateway to the followers of Shazuliyya Tareeqa to know all about the Order and is an example to all other Tareeqa followers to publish such informatory books that will bring to light relevant information of the Tareeqas they follow.

With much enthusiasm and with the assistance of senior ulamas, Dr. Fahmy Ismail has completed this task for the benefit of the Muslims in general and the followers of Shazuliyya Tareeqa in Sri Lanka and abroad in particular.
