Rizly Illyas
Sri Lanka Rugby president Rizly Illyas was removed from his post, suspended according to the Sports Ministry, following his suspension by Asia Rugby.
The reason is not clear why Illyas was suspended by Asia Rugby or subsequently the Sports Ministry although he became a controversial figure from the day he was elected to office more than two years ago at a grand celebration at a five star hotel in Colombo.
His removal also comes two weeks after the Sri Lanka team returned from a disastrous showing at the Asian Sevens, reduced to seventh place from among eight teams, and a day before the commencement of the Premier domestic inter-club League that did not go the distance in the last season.
Illyas said he will challenge his removal in court.
