North-South football players come together in World Cup interaction

The girls’ and boys’ football teams of Saraswathy Vidyalayam in Suntharapuram, Vavuniya and Sputnik International Education Centre in Kurunegala, came together in Vavuniya last Sunday to play the game they loved so much.

The event was jointly organised by Dialog Axiata and the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) to coincide with the on-going football World Cup.

The players from both teams were also given the opportunity to watch live action of the Japan versus Costa Rica match on a big screen.

According to the organisers, over 150 participants that included students, teachers and guests were able to have a new experience in community interaction that brought together people from many walks of life.

Dr. Eshantha Ariyadasa, Director General of Sputnik and Yoshida Kentaro, Senior Representative of JICA Sri Lanka were among the guests who joined the event in Kurunegala along with Saman Bandulasena, Chief Secretary of the Northern Province who was the Guest of Honour, R. Manogowry, Principal of Saraswathy Vidyalayam and Yamada Tetsuya, Chief Representative of JICA Sri Lanka.
