Kiran Vairavanathan Sri Lanka’s under-18 tennis player who had received the highest ranking at the recently concluded ITF tournament held in Sri Lanka, has been invited to take part in the Asian Qualification tournament in Japan which commenced yesterday (12).

If Vairavanathan qualifies then he will automatically be enrolled at the Australian Open main event next year.

The qualifiers in Japan will be contested by Kiran Vairavanathan and Zaidh Zihar (boys) and Sajida Razick and Vishmi Serasinghe (girls). In all 16 boys and 16 girls were invited from Asia/Oceania countries to enter and compete. The singles winner in each event will be awarded with a main draw singles wildcard into the Australian Open Junior Championships 2023.

Vairavanathan is expected to produce his best talent in this tournament as he did with flying colours in the singles and doubles at the ITF U-18 tournament held in Sri Lanka recently.

He will be accompanied by his coach Guyanga Weerasekera to Nagoya, Japan and will be hoping to be the first Sri Lankan junior to qualify for the Dunlop Australian Open Juniors event. (TBR)
