Mexican Ambassador presents credentials to President

Ambassador of Mexico in Sri Lanka, Federico Salas Lotfe presented his Letters of Credence to President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Presidential Secretariat on Friday, November 11.

During his work visit to Sri Lanka, Ambassador Salas also met Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Saby PC and Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security Nalin Fernando.

Ambassador Salas held meetings with Sri Lankan business leaders to help foster trade between both nations, including Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Vish Govindasamy. He also met Chairman, University Grants Commission Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunge. Both agreed to enhance student and academic exchanges, expand the Mexican cultural footprint in Sri Lanka, and explore joint scientific research opportunities.

On the occasion of his presentation of Credentials to President Ranil on Friday, Ambassador of Mexico Federico Salas said, “We hope to have a renewed impetus to the bilateral relationship between Mexico and Sri Lanka by enhancing the levels of trade exchanges that exist and exploring new opportunities for commerce; promoting people-to-people exchanges in areas such as academic cooperation and tourism; promoting Mexican culture in Sri Lanka with exhibits, performing arts and culinary festivals; intensifying high level contacts towards a more robust political dialogue; and expanding cooperation in multilateral fora.” Mexico is accredited to Sri Lanka from its Embassy in New Delhi, India and maintains an Honorary Consulate in Colombo, which was opened in 1995. Sri Lanka is accredited to Mexico from its Embassy in Washington, DC and maintains an Honorary Consulate in Mexico City which was opened in 2012.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry, PC and Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake were also present.
