Sri Lankan music director Brunthan Raghav predominantly worked in composing Tamil music locally and internationally and working with many reputed artists. For more than 20 years, he has won many awards and is constantly approached by film directors to compose songs for movies.

The Creative Director at Vaibz Productions, speaks to the Youth Observer on music, the T20 World Cup song and more songs in the making.

Q: How has the musical journey been so far?

A: I have been in the industry for more than 20 years and it has been a very fulfilling journey. The music industry from the time I started and what is it today, has evolved a lot. My work has been appreciated by many in Sri Lanka overseas.

Q: Tell me about your latest collaboration?

A: I am working with some artists for the T20 World Cup and it has shaped out very well. It will be released soon.

Q: What is your part in the Lankan T20 World Cup song?

A: When Sri Lanka won the recent Asia Cup, I decided to do a song to celebrate our cricketing lions. I connected with various artists and decided to compose the song for the coming T20 World Cup.

Q: What is the current status of the Sri Lankan music scene?

A: The Sri Lankan music industry has been going through a tough time, and it has been easy for local artists who are still waiting for breakthroughs. Even though setbacks in the industry, it has improved from what it was back then. Songs like ‘Manike Mage Hithe’, have given a lot of recognition to the local music industry. There are many singers and music directors with much potential to go global.

Q: What is unique about your music?

A: Rather than saying my music is unique, I would rather say I’ve made all types of songs such as “Fast beat, rap and kuthu songs”, but nothing satisfies me like composing melody songs, such as ‘Oru Poi Sollaayo Nee’, ‘Meham Idam Maarum’, ‘Penn Poove’, ‘Ennodu Pesum’ and ‘Sollaamal Pogirai’.

Q: What are you working on now?

A: I have some songs down the pipe and the songs are, ‘Thayangathey’, ‘Enge Ponai En Anbe’, ‘En Kadhalai Yen Nee’, ‘En Uyire’ and some other collaborations too.
