The Sri Lanka Podujana Party (SLPP) launched its islandwide drive, aiming at future elections in Kalutara yesterday. Earlier, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressed a gathering. Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa told the gathering in Kalutara to work with President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
“I believe that Wickremesinghe, who is working with us now as the President, is on the right path.” Mahinda Rajapaksa was speaking to the masses for the first time after he resigned from his office as the Prime Minister.
“I must tell you that our support is now with President Wickremesinghe,” he said.
“We criticised Wickremesinghe in the past for his being a UNP partisan. But he is now with us. Therefore, we speak good of him now because of his transformation and treading on the right path,” he said.
“Therefore, we are determined to move forward with him,” he added.
