Over 171, 000 students qualify for university

Of the 272,682 (62.9 percent) candidates who sat the 2021 G.C.E. Advanced Level examination, 171,497 have qualified for university entrance this year.

Among the students who qualified for university admission 149,946 are from schools and 21,551 private applicants. A total of 236,035 candidates had appeared for the examination as school applicants and 36,647 candidates as private applicants which were held at 2,438 centres countrywide from February 7 to March 5, 2022.

According to the performance of candidates based on the Advanced Level Examination (2021) results issued last Sunday, nearly 10,000 students (including private candidates) have obtained “3A” passes each for all three subjects, marking an average percentage of 3.67. The number of 9,313 of the students who passed three subjects was school applicants marking an average percentage of 3.95.

Of the total number of candidates who sat the examination, 27,362 candidates has failed in all three subjects and the percentage of failed in all three subjects is 10.03. Of this 9.71 percent (22,928 candidates) are school applicants.

The results of 49 candidates who had faced the exam have been suspended. Based on the Advanced Level Examination 2021 results, students who wish to re-sit the exam can apply online till September 8.

The eligible students can apply online for re-evaluation of those exam results. The dates to apply for re-evaluation will be announced by the Examinations Department in the near future. Several prison inmates have passed the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination.

The Department of Prisons said that each year, in collaboration with the Department of Examinations, it directs eligible inmates for higher education.

Accordingly, three prisoners held at the Magazine Prison in Colombo were permitted to sit for the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination for 2021.
