Two students of Good Hope College, Mawanella, nine-year-old Bassam Murtaza and 13-year-old Maryam Murtaza brought glory to Sri Lanka in the 2022 Muay Thai Youth World Championship held in Malaysia.
The two siblings coached by Mohamed Fahid of Iron Martial Art Association won four medals in a competition where 800 athletes from over 100 countries took part.
Bassam, the first and only player to compete in the World Championships at the youngest age category, won a gold and silver medal. His elder sister Maryam won a silver and bronze medal.
