Who composed the lyrics and melody?
The lyrics were composed by Sayuri Wijesekara an aspiring musician who studies at the university of Uva Wellassa.
She has always loved music and chose it as a subject for A/Ls and extended her knowledge by finalizing the ‘Visharada level from Bhatkhande Music Institute’. She is also a good violin player, singer, and also a lyricist with experience in performing at many local events.
And the melody of this song was composed by two artists: Jizzy and kyze.
Can you clarify the meaning of this song and the message behind it?
Sayuri:
This focuses on love at first sight between a Tamil girl and a Sinhala boy. She daydreams of their wedding where her wedding dress includes an ‘Osari’ and Sal flowers from Sinhala culture and the ‘Selaya’ and Mottu from Tamils. She doesn’t care about the problems that they would have to face in the future. It was the dawn of a mixed culture. She was finally ready to conquer the new path.
What were the challenges and hardships that you faced when composing this song?
kyzemusic:
Doing the vocals for this song was a bit tough. Sayuri was not able to do the vocals since the studio was closed due to ongoing power cuts. And I and Jizzy were staying late at night on zoom meetings finishing the track virtually and thereby staying vigilant for many days since the electricity outages always happened during the daytime.
Is this song a part of an album to be released in the near future?
Jizzy and Kyze music:
Actually, we would like to do an acoustic version of this song! but didn’t think about releasing it with an album. my opinion is when we re-release a song with an album or whatever it won’t give any changes. Yet, near future, we might have more songs coming up, also with Sayuri and more artists!
What was the inspiration behind the song?
Kyzemusic:
I was just messing around on my DAW. And I got this beautiful flute melody, and I actually made a Reggaeton version of it and sent it off to jizzy. Jizzy liked it and told me that we should switch it up and make it more electronic. So, we experimented the track by using our traditional Sri Lankan sounds and mixed it with some electronic synthesizes. And that track was perfect.
How was the condition of being a musician during an economic crisis?
Jizzy:
That was, of course, hard because our industry is small, when we get pop, rnb, rap stuff it might have a market but for EDM, it’s not a huge one. So, survival through EDM is a nightmare.
At the same time, the frustration due to the unavailability of fuel to travel is the worst scenario.
As far as I know, most artists love to go out somewhere, not only to have fun but also to listen to the surroundings. Whenever travelling by bus or riding a car, my boys and I used to play Spotify. Yeah, I miss those moments.
In the bus, my favourite spot is the rear left corner seat, wearing headphones and playing my favourite song in that back seat while watching how everything passes away outside the shutter. That always gave me a heap of ideas! Yes, it’s hard to survive but we have to move!
Do you have anything coming up this year?
Sayuri:
Being a lyricist, I’ve composed lyrics for two other songs and my own song will be released soon with the guidance of Jizzy Aiya.
Jizzy:
Yeah, I have so many releases coming up with very popular artists and they are already done. So, we will wait for the best moment to release them.
Kyzemusic:
I also have another release with jizzy as well and a few other friends from MADIAD, NEULOWS, and many more.
