Losing the U-19 World Cup semi final was a bitter pill for Sahan

Wanuja Sahan Kumara is a cricket product who graduated at St. Peter’s College, represented Sri Lanka at the 2022 Youth World Cup as an allrounder and his motto in life is “never give up” while he describes himself as a hardworking person.

“Cricket and family life is the most important thing for me”, he told the Sunday Observer.

The 19-year old Sahan Kumara can be described as a simple easy-to-make-friends-with kind of person hailing from Panadura and his most disappointing moment to-date came when his team could not qualify for the Under-19 World Cup final this year.

Excerpts of an interview with the Sunday Observer:

Q: What would you say is your passion in life? My passion is to play cricket always

Q: Describe yourself in one word Focused. I am also straight forward

Q: Any words or phrases you overuse? Never Give Up

Q: What is your most marked characteristic? Working hard

Q: If you could edit your past, what would you change? No changes, actually my past is good

Q: What is the most important thing in your life? Family and cricket

Q: Who has influenced you the most? My father

Q: Are you fashionable? No I’m not. I like to be simple and free-minded

Q: If you had access to a time machine what would you change? I made 48 and unlucky I couldn’t get a half century in the Joe-Pete big match

Q: Who motivates you most in your life? Father and mother

Q: If you could choose any career right now, what would it be? Cricketer

Q: What forms of music do you listen to? Old songs

Q: What’s the best thing you would like to hear from someone? If everyone says that I can be a good cricketer in the future

Q. What made you to choose sports?

When I was a child I played cricket with my brothers and then I thought this is it and that’s my future sport

Q. Thus far what was your most unforgettable sporting moment?

Being selected to the Under-19 Sri Lanka team

Q. What’s your best school sporting achievement? Being selected as the First X1College cricket captain in the 2021/2022 season

Q: What is your idea of happiness? Supporting others

Q: What is the trait you most deplore in others? Harming people

Q: Which person do you most admire and why? I admire my family because they support me every time and stay beside me in my best and worst days

Q: What has been your biggest disappointment? At the last Under-19 World Cup. We lost in the semifinals and could not make it to the final this year.

Q: Most important lesson life has taught you? To believe in my self

Q: What becomes of the broken hearted?

I have never experienced it before
