Lou Adihetty: First Ceylonese to win Hockey ‘Blue’ at Cambridge

Lou Adihetty came into prominence when he was selected to represent Colombo HA versus the visiting Madras HA in 1955 and again in 1956 versus the Mysore HA - both ‘Corera Cup’ encounters.

In 1964, he represented the Mercantile HA at the National Championships. During his short career he represented Ceylon at the 1962 Asian Games and against the visiting world champions Pakistan.

He was the first Ceylonese to win the Hockey ‘Blue’ at the Cambridge University.

V Jeyaratnam was a calm and reliable right full back from 1957 to 1962. He played for the Tamil Union C&AC who won 10 championships in tournaments conducted by the Colombo HA.

At the National Hockey Championships, he represented the Mercantile HA in eight Nationals, captaining in 1970, helping the association with many sterling performances, and also the Colombo HA in 1959 and 1965.

He had the honour of representing Ceylon at the 1962 Asian Games and against Great Britain in two Test matches where his performance was highly recognised.

Jocelyn Rayen had a very short career before emigrating to India.
He was a solid wing half with great promise, playing in the early years of Old Bens SC.

He played in just one National Hockey Championship in 1964.
His undoubted talent earned him a call to represent Ceylon versus world champions Pakistan in 1962.

KPND Nissanka represented Matale HA at the National Championships from 1959 to 1966, captaining in 1965, and in the winning teams in 1964 and 1965.
