Sanudula Dahamdi of Musaeus College won the Rating Chess Category event of 1600-1799 of the Queen’s Chess Festival Blitz Chess Championships last week conducted by the FIDE Women’s Commission scoring seven points out of nine games.
Sanudula scored wins against Pasipanodya Valentine (Zimbabwe), Jimenez Salas Maria Teresa (Peru), Davari Sara (Iran), Lampard Alice(Scotland), Castillo Beitia Ashley Alexandra (Panama), Orbe Vivero Veronica Priscila (Ecuador) and drew with HG Pragnya (India) and Vicze Zsofia (Austria) while losing to Stadlinger Lea (Austria), to obtain the seven points and earn the Gold Medal.
For her fine performances, FIDE is offering her the opportunity of witnessing the 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022 next month in India.
There were1400 players from all over the world who participated in this event in all four categories which was organized as four continental Championships in Africa, America, Asia and Europe.
The top three players of each continent played a round robin event in the finals.
Nineteen players from Sri Lanka participated in the qualification events.
