Princess of pop, Britney Spears, is a name that always made headlines. Now she has come up with her new wedding ceremony after two disrupted marriages. On June 9, she got married to her new boyfriend, 28-year-old, Sam Asghari who is an actor and fitness trainer. The official ceremony was held at Britney’s Thousand Oaks home in Los Angeles. According to foreign media, it’s a simple but glamorous event only participated by an intimate crowd of around 60.
First meeting
The couple first met in October 2016 on the set of Britney’s Slumber Party video. Sam played her love interest in it, and has now been together for six years. As reported by Alexandra Macon for the Vogue, Sam’s photo was one of the many that the star had to sift through and select from. “I did not have to audition,” he said. “It was a direct book.”
How did their love affair begin? After a few months of the music video, Britney suddenly found Sam’s number in her bag. “I was like, ‘He is really cute. This guy is really cute,” she told a radio host in 2017. “So then I called him, and ever since then…he is just a really fun, funny person.”
Britney finally publicised her relationship by posting a photo of her and Sam at dinner on Instagram on New Year’s Day 2017. Thereafter, they’ve gone on to make many tandem workout videos together. “The exercises, I came up with, but the videos are because of my better half. She’s the video director,” Sam has said. “It’s a very fun thing, and I look back at them and smile.”
Alexandra Macon said in her ‘Vogue’ article that when the grassroots campaign to end Britney’s conservatorship gained momentum, Sam publicly threw his support behind it, posting a selfie wearing a #FreeBritney t-shirt and celebrating with the star when her father’s control over her personal life and finances came to an end.
Engagement and wedding
After all this, the couple got engaged in September of 2021 when Sam proposed with a classic 3.5 carat round brilliant cut diamond solitaire in a platinum cathedral setting by Roman Malayev. According to Ajay Anand, CEO of RareCarat.com, Britney’s engagement ring was a modest 3.5 carat round cut solitaire diamond which is worth around $70k. “Sam had ‘Lioness’ — his special nickname for Britney — engraved inside the band,” writes Macon.
In April this year, Britney was pregnant, and the couple let fans know they were expanding their family. “Our lives have been a real-life fairy tale, Happy Mother’s Day to my soon-to-be queen,” Sam wrote on Instagram after Britney announced she was pregnant. On this Instagram post, he also implied their wedding: “Also the big day has been set! But nobody will know until the day after.” However, the dates might have been changed, after getting to know that Britney had had a miscarriage. On her miscarriage, the couple wrote: “Our love for each other is our strength. We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family…”
Ultimately, all was set to hold the wedding ceremony on June 9, although the exact date was never publicised. To plan the wedding, the couple assigned celebrity event producer Jeffrey Best of Best Events. “We really wanted to make this a small and beautiful moment with family and friends,” Britney told ‘Vogue’. “We wanted warm and feminine colors including blush, white, cream, and gold, and a lot of various shades of pinks, blush, and reds.” Floral decorations were given to Marks Garden which looked as though they’d been plucked from the pages of a fairytale.
Wedding ceremony
On the wedding day, Britney wore a sleek, off-the-shoulder custom Versace dress with a leg-revealing slit up one side and a classic white veil with satin edging. Sam complemented Britney’s look in a tux by Versace, according to Macon.
As planned earlier, Charlotte and Sofia Tilbury collaborated to create the bride’s natural beauty look. “I was so thrilled and honored to be asked to design Britney’s bridal beauty look!” Charlotte said to Vogue. “Britney is an icon of our time who has inspired and empowered us all with her joy and positive energy. She’s such a natural beauty and has the most mesmerizing big, brown eyes.” Tilbury’s niece Sofia was there on the day to bring the look to life.
Marks Garden’s florals looked as though they’d been plucked from the pages of a fairytale. Vogue also reported:
“The bride’s glow was further enhanced by the jewellery she eventually put on to walk down the aisle. Britney’s bridal pieces weighed in at 62 carats and were all from jeweller to the stars, Stephanie Gottlieb. Her look included round diamond and pear shaped drop earrings, a heart shaped diamond tennis necklace in white gold, and an oval diamond tennis bracelet.”
The couple also had wedding bands created by Stephanie, with Britney choosing a beautiful stack of two bands to pair with her engagement ring, and Sam selecting two platinum bands.
“We knew that Britney’s dress had a classic silhouette with an open neckline, so we designed timeless pieces that would complement the style,” Stephanie told Vogue. “We collaboratively selected the pieces that felt the most natural to Britney.”
The couple’s home was draped in pink and white roses for the occasion, and they arrived via horse-drawn carriage – the white horse was decorated with gold hooves while the whole thing fitted the Princess of Pop. According to the reports, the wedding ceremony took place under a tent draped in velvet blush, and lasted for ten minutes. Guests included Madonna, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton and Carter Reum, Kathy Hilton, Maria Menounos, Ansel Elgort, will.i.am, her manager Cade Hudson, and Donatella Versace. But apart from her brother, Bryan, any of Britney’ parents, Lynn and Jamie, and her younger sister, Jamie Lynn, were not among the crowd. As per buzzfeednews.com, this comes as little surprise given that the singer has been publicly critical of her family amid the dissolution of her decade-spanning conservatorship.
Two husbands’ two behaviour
Britney married Kevin Federline, her co-dancer in the group, in 2004, but ended in a scandal and divorce in 2007 – this affected her so much that she even had to spend time in a mental hospital. Anyway, Britney had two sons from him — 16-year-old Sean Preston and 15-year-old Jayden James — and neither of them or Federline were invited to the event. However, issuing a statement through his attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, Federline said, they are “happy for Britney and wish her and Sam all the best going forward.”
While Federline behaved like this, her first husband, Jason Alexander — to whom Britney was married for just 55 hours in 2004 — live streamed himself trespassing on his ex-wife’s property and walking around the second floor of her home, even briefly capturing footage of event coordinators setting up the altar inside the tent where the wedding took place. In the livestream, Alexander can be heard asking for Britney and threatening to “crash” her wedding. However, he was eventually restrained by security outside the property, and handed over to the police. As per facts, Britney was apparently “shaken” by the intrusion, but did not let it ruin her big day.
Dancing floor
After the 10-minute-wedding ceremony, it was time to celebrate. At the party, Macon writes, Britney changed into three more looks: A black mini dress was followed by a two-toned outfit, and finally, a red mini dress, all by Versace. Citrus Blossom Bakery created the couple’s vanilla strawberry cake and the music was by DJ Albert.
Next, the dance event. ‘Vulture’ journalist, Justin Curto, reported that Britney and Sam didn’t have a first dance, but she wasted no time getting down with her friends. She danced with Madonna and Selena Gomez to “Toxic” and sang “Stars Are Blind” with Paris Hilton. At one point, Madonna, Hilton, Gomez, Drew Barrymore, and more even belted out a bit of “Vogue.” All songs are bound to come up at any (good) wedding, regardless of whether the performers are there.
According to Alexandra Macon, the newlyweds made their exit at 10.15 p.m. in a Rolls Royce, and guests surrounded their car with sparklers when the couple drove away.
