
Hailing from Colombo, Gaya completed her primary education at the Meerigama Primary School which was her family hometown. She returned to Colombo for her senior education where she studied at the Sujatha Vidyalaya and Visaka Vidyalaya.
Being the eldest in the family of three girls, Gaya was the first to get her undergraduate degree in Physical Science from the Colombo University. At the age of 21, Gaya married and is blessed with two daughters who are currently residing in Ireland.
After working in the private sector for many years, Gaya and her husband started their own company A-Plus Wrought Iron Company PVT (LTD) which manufactures wrought iron hand railings, balcony railings, gates, and furniture. The company which began in 2001 is still being run successfully by the duo. Gaya is currently the director of the company.
Gaya joined Lionisn in the year 2007 as a Charter Member for the Lions Club of Biyagama North of the 306 B2 District. She was involved in numerous projects over years pertaining to serving the needy in Sri Lanka. The main project being the Golden Jubilee Eye Hospital, Gaya’s district persistently carries out fund raising events to raise money for the hospital.
This year 2021/2022, Gaya was selected as the Treasurer for the Lion Ladies Committee. Along with her Patron and the Lion Ladies in the district, they were able to raise Rs 4.2 million to buy an OCT Scanner for the eye hospital. Gaya acknowledges her District Governor Lion Kaushal Rajapaksa and his gracious Lion Lady Lion Shirani Rajapaksa for giving her guidance and the space to perform all her duties.
As a result, Gaya was awarded the highest award a Lion can receive which is the Lion Lady of the Year 2021/2022. It is due to her hard work, commitment, and dedication she was able to achieve this recognition. She concludes that she will continue to give her effort and commitment towards this society for the best of her abilities.
