Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva was the only Sri Lankan to have found a market value in the 100-ball cricket tournament to be played in England in August.

He will play for a team called the Manchester Originals that will have players of the calibre of Jos Buttler, Ollie Robinson, Andre Russell, Laurie Evans and Phil Salt.

There were some 20 Sri Lankans lined up for places.

Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell and Quinton de Kock were among the big overseas names signed in the men’s Hundred draft.

Pollard has joined London Spirit while his West Indies team-mate Russell was signed by Manchester Originals and South Africa international De Kock retained by Southern Brave.

But a number of other international players have not been signed. David Warner, Aaron Finch, Chris Gayle and Babar Azam are among those to have missed out.

Instead, teams spent big on domestic players who will definitely be available. Joe Clarke (Welsh Fire), Tom Banton (Welsh Fire), Liam Dawson (London Spirit), Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Laurie Evans (Manchester Originals) have all been signed in the top wage bracket.

The teams contesting the championship are named as Birmingham Phoenix, London Spirit, Manchester Originals, Super Northern Charges, Original Invincibles, Southern Brave, Trent Rockets and Welsh Fire.

The women’s competition promises to be star-studded with 19 of the 22 players from the recent Women’s World Cup final involved.
