Two Sri Lankan boxers Kaumini Hashini and Niraj Wijewardena will make their professional debut at the third edition of the Countdown to the Middle East Crown Series to be held in Dubai, UAE on March 12.

This tournament was scheduled to be held in December by the organisers DJMC Events.

Kaumini is a promising former Sri Lanka youth international who had virtually given up the sport before being given an opportunity to pursue her passion for boxing as a livelihood by two Sri Lankans, Dunstan Rozairo and Bandula Ratnapala.

A boxing enthusiast of St Mary’s College, Dehiwela, and a long-time resident of Dubai, Rozairo is the owner of DJMC Events which is organising this series. New Jersey-based Ratnapala, a former Marian boxer, is also playing a key role in supporting this international professional boxing event.

Former Kingswood boxer Wijewardena is an outstanding schoolboy pugilist who is a two-time winner of the Stubbs Shield meet.

Kaumini will take on England’s Jane Shannon Kimberley while Wijewardena will face Pakistan’s Abdul Rasheed in the Super Middle weight (under 76kg) weight class.

Another former Kingswood and Sri Lanka pugilist Tharindu Roshan made an impressive debut in the second event of the series in September.
