Police Sports Club registered their second win in the SLR inter-club ‘A’ division league rugby championship 2022, overcoming CR & FC by 20 points (3 tries, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) to 3 (1 penalty) at Police Park yesterday. At halftime Police led 13-3.

Having suffered a narrow 17-21 loss against Havelocks last week, Police gave an excellent display both in attack as well as in defence to record an impressive win.

Police managed to hold on to their nerves from the first whistle, to gradually turn the game in their favour. The scoring was opened in the fifth minute when fly half Yohan Peiris fired across a penalty.

CR got the equaliser when winger Yasas Kavindu slotted in a penalty in the 14th minute.

Police increased their lead to 8-3 in the 26th minute when lock forward Danushka Edirisuriya ran all the way to score an unconverted try. The ‘blue shirts’ scored another unconverted try through their substitute Deshan Fernando just before half time.

Even after the turnaround, Police dominated in the same manner as during the first half to keep the CR&FC at bay.

Centre Vihanga Pivithuru scored Police’s third try under the posts in the 52nd minute to seal victory with Peiris adding the extra points to give them an unassailable 20-3 lead.
