Road work to continue despite curfew - Johnston Fernando

22 August, 2021

Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando said construction work of roads and highways across the country will continue as usual despite the quarantine curfew.

He said those who are employed in the construction sector can report to work by using their employee identity card as a curfew pass.

The Government decided to impose an island-wide quarantine curfew from 10.00 p.m. on Friday (August 20) until 4.00 a.m. on August 30.

The decision was taken during a meeting with the Special Committee on Covid-19 Control held at the Presidential Secretariat on Friday. In addition, essential services, export, apparel and agricultural sectors have been given the green light to function as normal during this period. Pharmacies are also permitted to operate as usual.
