
A cricket ground in Jaffna at Mallakam was commissioned by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) last Sunday with the patronage of its vice president Ravin Wickremaratne and K Mahesan the district secretary of Jaffna on land donated by the late P Sri Baskaran whose wife also attended the ceremony.
Two side practice wickets, a matting wicket, an office room and a player changing are the facilities provided in the first phase of the development of the ground.
Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement the completion of the third phase development program by the end of 2022 will transform the Mallakam ground into a fully-fledged national venue with facilities such as turf wickets, a pavilion, player dressing rooms, gymnasium, a scoreboard, sight screen and facilities for indoor cricket practices.
The Mallakam ground is managed by the Jaffna District Cricket Association, and the 26 cricket clubs and 16 schools playing cricket in Jaffna will benefit from the venue according to SLC.
