Colombo University to mark centenary of Arts Faculty

Colombo University , the pioneer in Higher Education in Sri Lanka will celebrate the centenary of the Arts Faculty, Science Faculty and Main Library with a series of events on January 21.

The celebrations will commence at 8.30am in the College House premises, Colombo with the participation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the chief guest.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris will be the guests of honour.

The proceedings of the day will commence with the opening of the Information and Learning Resource Centre of the Science Faculty, the Disability Resource Centre, Faculty of Board Room, and the Exercise Laboratory of the Faculty of Arts and the Research Commons of the Main Library.

The Keynote addresses will be delivered by Virtusa Corporation Chief Executive Officer Kris Canekeratne at 10.30 am and at 2.00 pm Hanaa Singer, the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Sri Lanka

Vice Chancellor Prof. Chandrika Wijeyrathne, Emeritus Prof. Lakshman Dissanayake, the Deans of the Faculties of Science and Arts, Prof. Upul Sonnadara and Prof. Lasantha Manawadu will deliver commemorative speeches.

The day’s ceremony will end with the Annual Research Symposium 2020”commencing at 5.00pm under the theme; “Research and Innovation : Challenges and Opportunities in the New Normal”. the chief guest will be Ms. Sarah Hulton OBE, British High Commissioner, in Sri Lanka. Prof. Mohan Edirisinghe, Chair of the Biomaterials,, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University College, London. The handing over the Annual Research Awards by the University Senate will take place during the symposium.

The Faculty of Medicine will conduct an academic mentoring program as a virtual conference on January 22 with a keynote address by Prof. Sarath Gunapala of NASA and California Institute of Technology USA and special guest lectures will be delivered by Dr. Giovanni Biglino of University of Bristol , UK Emeritus Prof. Kamini Mendis, Prof. Kalyani Perera, and Prof. Nirmalie Pallewatte.
