TikTok

3 January, 2021

I’ve always been superstitious, trying to find meaning or symbolism within my own life. So, it comes as no surprise that I love a good horoscope reading. Some think it’s nonsense, but for me, it feels like a cheaper (and obviously less professional) form of therapy. It's reassurance, an answer that helps steer me in the right direction. It’s the generalized advice we see as unique to ourselves.

When tarot readings first showed up on my TikTok ‘for you’ page, I was naturally intrigued, but knew that, similar to horoscopes, I’d be receiving somewhat generic advice. After all, I was presumably one of many seeing the same reading, happening upon it based on a mysterious algorithm.

Of course, it was entertaining to hear via these “readings” that my future partner has dark hair and soulful eyes, but I took it with a grain of salt. They were light and fluffy, nothing more. However, as time went on, it seemed like my TikTok tarot readings were getting eerily specific. I began to notice odd patterns on the app and signs in real life. This included number synchronicity and vivid dreams that would come true weeks later, aligning with the messages in the TikTok tarot readings.

Message

During my daily outings, I'd often end up parked in front of numbers like 111, 1144, and 222, or receive bills with this same number pattern. Maybe, I thought, it's a message from the universe. I am a person who looks for signs, but the seeming coincidences didn’t stop there.

"I see that your ex misses you. Be prepared as they are going to reach out soon. I am getting strong water sign energy from you and your ex may be a Libra," one reading said. \The next day at 2 pm, I heard from my ex after a year of silence. I was in absolute shock, knowing that this prediction not only came true but the tarot reader guessed our horoscope signs correctly (I’m a Pisces and he’s a Libra). I was caught totally by surprise.

The “coincidence” that made me a believer, though, was about my grandfather. One super specific reading predicted how my grandfather passed away. His passing was unique in itself, which is why I was inclined to believe these seemingly random readings, assigned to me by an algorithm, might be somewhat accurate. The reading said he was watching over me, and a tear dripped down my face.

Eventually, TikTok tarot began to predict milestones in my life. As an aspiring writer I was praying for opportunities, and through another tarot reading I was told that a big break is soon approaching. The tarot reader then informed her viewers to “claim” these predictions in the comment section in order for them to come true. I grudgingly, typed “claim” with a few heart emojis, assuming it was for the sole purpose of getting the creator’s views up.

The next day, I received an offer from one of my favorite magazines to write the article I previously pitched to them. I knew it was fate and far more than just a coincidence. I began to use this technique of claiming in the comment section to bring other writing and job opportunities into my life.

Content creator, energy reader and tarot specialist Hae June “HeyJune” Jeon indicated that commenting “claim" or adding a unique signature in the comment section acts as a form of intention setting, “When you set an intention you manifest things faster because you are signaling to the universe.”

Hope

TikTok tarot ultimately came to my aid in a time of uncertainty, and has given me a sense of hope when things appeared to be stagnant. My belief is that we subconsciously manifest people, videos, messages, signs and lessons into our lives; ones that we are meant to hear at that very moment.Jeon touched on the point that tarot is meant to be authentic, and help you find a deeper meaning of happiness. “The whole point of tarot is to discover who you truly are inside.

That is what I really try to teach in my videos,” she said. In all honesty, I have felt a sense of relief, certainty, and more alignment with the universe ever since these tarot readings entered my life. The accuracy, and connection I had felt after watching tarot readings has always left me pleasantly surprised. Call it a hoax, but I see it as my daily uplifting reassurance.
