Euphoria releases trailer starring Zendaya for Rue’s special episode

6 December, 2020

The wait for new Euphoria is nearly over. After HBO teased fans with a promotional poster from the forthcoming special holiday episodes, the official trailer has arrived.

Clocking in at just under one minute, the trailer is Rue-centric, and begins with Zendaya's character seated at a diner. Initially, it appears as if Rue is seated alone, but as the trailer continues, much more info pertaining to the episode is revealed.

Rue’s thoughts

Seemingly deep in thought and looking somewhat upset, Rue's thoughts later become the centre of the story. Viewers are transported into a visual that has her walking with Jules (Hunter Schafer) in the night time clip. A voiceover of Rue is later heard saying, “What if we just go to the city? What if we just left."Rue later stands alone a train station, and her voice enters again, arguing with Jules about leaving their town, since at the end of season 1, Rue decides to stay. “Maybe I deserve it,” the voiceover states. The final few seconds flash back to Rue seated at the diner, and Ali (who she met at an addiction support group in the first season) asks, “Rue, why'd you call me?” That answer never comes, but it's likely fans will learn more when the episode airs on December 6 at 9 p.m.

Euphoria

As previously reported, Euphoria will air two new episodes that will “bridge the gap” between seasons one and two of the series. Planned in the wake of delayed filming due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the first episode, according to Deadline, will be called Trouble Don't Last Always and will centre on Rue's holiday celebrations.

There's no word yet on what the second episode might explore or focus on, but Deadline points out that Zendaya confirmed on social media that she, along with Hunter Schafer, would appear in both episodes.
