Sri Lanka to host Asian Yachting Championship in December

21 June, 2020

The Yachting Association has once again postponed the IODA Asian and Oceania Championship to December from September.

It had originally been slotted to be held from June 6 to 13 contested by competitors from 14 nations in Trincomalee.

Operations director of the Yachting Association, Sarath Kuragama, told the Sunday Observer that due to the monsoon the venue of the competition will also have to be changed.

“First we decided to conduct this championship in Trincomalee. But now that it has been postponed, we cannot hold it there in December.

“So we have decided to have it in Negombo,” Kuragama said.

The Yachting Association has decided not to reopen its headquarters at this moment in time as it is located in the Navy base at Crow’s Island in Mattakkuliya, Colombo due to current coronavirus concerns.
