Sri Lanka football players to commence practices

7 June, 2020

The Sri Lanka football squad which has been out of action since mid-March has also been cleared to resume practices from June 22, with all players having been briefed about preventive measures they have to take.

This was confirmed by the President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) Anura de Silva.

However the FFSL has not yet made a decision to commence practices of the women’s pool.

The FFSL has already made arrangements to re-commence the men’s team practices under social distancing guidelines.

However once the players are sent to a training camp they will remain there for three weeks and will not be allowed to go back to their homes during that training period.

Meanwhile the 13th SAFF Championship which was scheduled for September in Bangladesh is likely to be called off due.

The Sri Lanka team is presently coached by Amir Allergic and is yet to play a match with him as new coach. The FFSL has also taken steps to renovate Sri Lanka’s first-ever artificial football ground - Beddagana Football Complex - which many national players use for training.

The FFSL shut down their training ground in mid-March, and the footballers had to stock up on gym equipment in an attempt to maintain their fitness in their homes during the coronavirus crisis.
