Sports Federations can hold or postpone their Annual General Meetings (AGM) according to the Sports Ministry, but an on-line election result will be accepted.
Amal Edirisuriya, the Director General of Sports told the Sunday Observer that there will be no restrictions for holding the AGMs even if they are conducted on-line.
“They can postpone their AGMs or hold them. But they must follow guidelines of the Health Ministry also. We have decided that any Federation can hold an online AGM which is accepted. This is the first time we are accepting this method.
“We know that all this is possible given the facilities available for a conference online. So the members of the Federations, District Associations and clubs can nominate their agents for a video conference. Then anyone who is entitled to cast a vote can do so. However if they wish they can postpone the election of office bearers until the end of July,” said Edirisuriya.
According to the Sports Law all AGMs must be held by May 31 but the current coronavirus situation in the country can authorize the Sports Ministry to postpone an election of office bearers.
