Eyebrows are being raised over players from a Christian school in Colombo falling down at the feet of a clergyman before and after a rugby match which former players of the school say they did not do in the past.
The act is seen as irrelevant and inappropriate as Christians reserve worship only for God and not a fellow human being.
The clergyman does not show any objection to the ‘formality’ while meeting them before a match.
“We also had clergymen patronizing our matches but they never wanted us to worship them by falling at their feet,” said a former player of the school. “We just shake hands.” Christian clergymen are known to take their vows that bind them to serve and not be served. Of the 12 schools contesting the inter-school League tournament, six are Christian schools of which four are from Colombo.
