No Lankans affected by coronavirus in South Korea

23 February, 2020

The Foreign Relations Ministry reassured yesterday that none of the Sri Lankans residing in South Korea have contracted COVID-19.

This comes amidst soaring COVID-19 patients in the nation where over 20,000 Sri Lankans comprising migrant workers as well as students reside.

The number of patients last afternoon reached 346.

“The Embassy is focusing attention on Sri Lankans in Daegu, where an estimated 915 reside,” the Foreign Relations Ministry stated in a media release.

It added that the ministry is in coordination with the Sri Lanka Embassy in Seoul and has been closely monitoring and coordinating efforts to ensure the safety of Sri Lankans there. Hotlines operated by the Embassy are currently functional on a round-the-clock basis and a Help Desk is also operational, the statement added, in order to respond to the needs of the Sri Lankan community. Two social media groups have been set up and the Mission is in contact with Sri Lankan Temples and community leaders.

The Hotlines are: (0082)-2-735-2966, (0082)-2-735-2967, (0082)-2-794-2968.
