The Present and the future of the Sri Lankan Children Theatre

26 January, 2020

As the first step for year 2020 the Colombo Theatre Forum has organized a discussion on The present and the future of the Sri Lankan Children Theatre at the German Cultural Centre on January 28, at 5pm. The discussion will be moderated by M. Safeer with mediators, Waruna Alahakoon, Sudharshan Bandara and Chamika Hathwalana.

“At present children’s dramas are produced at school, provincial and national levels for various competitions. But, what is the fate of such productions, what sort of encouragement is given to them after the competitions are over and which way should these productions be directed, are matters to be analyzed. The intention of this month’s forum is to discuss these matters in depth,” said Safeer.

The Colombo Theatre Forum is a space provided for those who are trying to find new dimensions in the theatre field. It is also a space where theatre veterans, directors, script writers, actors and actresses, critics, lighting directors, background creators, stage managers, students and spectators get together to widen the horizon of local and foreign theatre,

The Colombo Theatre Forum initiated in 2017 by the Inter Acts Art Theatre Group with the assistance of Goethe - Institut of Colombo has now successfully completed three years of a series of discussions about the past, the present and the future of the theatre.

In addition to discussions about the European theatre, the Forum takes another step forward in 2020 to talk about the local theatre and screening performance of local productions. The Forum will be held at the German Cultural Centre, from 5 pm, on the last Tuesday of every month.
