It is the 21st Century. Scientists’ extreme weather predictions are coming true. Greenhouse gases are rising every day. It is no one but the people of this globe who should strive together to create a greener planet for the next generation. We should genuinely strive to take a sustainable approach by taking all the stakeholders on board to rally behind the common objective of conserving the environment.
The latest research shows trees, bushes and other greenery growing in the concrete-and-glass canyons of cities can reduce levels of two of the most worrisome air pollutants by eight times more than previously believed. It takes no time to plant a tree. And the kind of positive impact that is created is undoubtedly priceless. A mature tree will absorb 48 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen in exchange.
Sirasa has commenced a mission named ‘’Thuru Sirasa” with the pure objective of creating a sustainable future.. The yearlong program is implemented simultaneous to their 21st anniversary celebration.Thousands of trees were planted around the Island during the past few months with unprecedented feedback received from all stakeholders. A panel of experts select the appropriate species of plants.
The Sri Lanka Army which celebrates their 70th Anniversary this year, have joined hands with Sirasa TV in continuing the project Thuru Sirasa.
