Over 200 to contest half marathon

A record number of participants both local and international, totalling more than 200 runners will vie for honours at the annual half marathon scheduled to be held today (11) in Arugambay. The race is scheduled to commence at 6.00 a.m.

The competition, organized by the Arugambay Development Forum, is themed “Rise up Sri Lanka” and many of the competitors arrived in Arugambay solely to participate in this event.

The half marathon (21.1 km) is open to runners who are over 17 years with 10 kms for women and five kms for juniors less than 17 years and senior citizens who are over 60 years old.

According to the organisers more than 90 competitors from Austria, USA, Japan, Netherlands, Australia, South Africa, Jordan and India are lined up to participate in this event that will make it more competitive.
