An exhibition of the collected works of artist and architect Ismeth Raheem will be held at the Harold Peiris Art Gallery, Lionel Wendt Art Centre, from Saturday June 29 to Monday July 1, 2019, 11 am–6 pm. The exhibition will be a retrospective of his work and bring together pieces produced over a career spanning nearly six decades. While much of the work on show will be paintings or sketches on paper, the exhibition will also feature examples of Ismeth’s work using various materials - gold leaf, textile, metal, concrete - and a variety of different techniques, ranging from painting, pen-and-ink sketching, engraving and etching, to batik and sculpture. Ismeth’s work as an artist reflects diverse influences and interests. These include his professional work in architecture and interior design; his research and publications on Sri Lanka’s colonial history, art history and archaeology; a lifelong passion for the natural world; and a taste for mythical, fantastical and surreal themes.
