With the aim of promoting volleyball, the national sport of Sri Lanka, the Mercantile Services Volleyball Association will conduct its seventh annual championships this year for men and women.
This year the organizing committee is headed by the General Manger of Sri Lanka Telecom.
According to the organizing Committee the championship will be conducted under rules and regulations accepted by the world governing body. The organizers expect over 100 teams from both categories to compete at this year’s championship which will be played at the National Youth Council Courts from September 1 and 2 while the finals of the championship is scheduled to be played at the same venue on November 10 and 11.
The Championship is played under three categories as Super League, Championship and A Division. The winner of the Super League is to receive the Trophy and a cash award of Rs. 150,000, while the winner in the women’s category will receive a trophy and Rs. 100,000.
The champions of the men’s category men and women too will receive trophies and cash awards
of Rs. 100,000 and 50,000 respectively. The A Division winners will be awarded trophies and cash awards of Rs. 30,000 each. There are cash awards presented to the runners-up of all three categories and special awards are on offer for Best Player, Best Spiker and Best Setter and in addition to these awards there will be motor cycles to be presented to the best players of the tournament men and women.
