Ajantha Mendis’ Lion Warriors win

Lion Warriors led by former Sri Lankan spinner, Ajantha Mendis defended their title in the Last Man Stands National Tournament, which was titled ‘Last man stands-race to Chester.’

In the rain hampered final which was reduced to 15-overs-a side, Lion Warriors were all out for 87 runs in 14.1 overs. In reply, Super Lions could only score 71 runs in 13.3 overs. Ajantha Mendis received the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his performance of 39 runs off 21 deliveries with the bat and one wicket for 8 in bowling. He also received the ‘Man of the Series’ award. Asantha Basnayake was the best batsman of the tournament.

The tournament was worked off throughout two months at district level before getting to National level. The winners walked off with Rs. 200,000 in prize money.
