A newly-convicted murderer in Florida repeatedly punched his defense attorney after a judge handed down his verdict.
The American Bar Association Journal reported that defendant Travis Jamaar Davis and his three co-defendants had just been convicted of felony murder related to the 2016 death of Courtney Levar London when the courtroom fracas began. Davis, the reported triggerman in London’s shooting death, punched lawyer Daniel Hernandez repeatedly in the back of the head and soon after, his co-defendant Kelvon Grimmage joined in.
Hernandez told a Tampa Fox affiliate that it was the first time in his legal career that he’d experienced anything like that.
“I got about five punches to the back, the side of my head and forehead. I got a few bumps and bruises, some scratches,” the attorney said. “I’ve been trying cases for almost 40 years, and I’d never been struck by a defendant before.”
