Today the Hindus in Sri Lanka are celebrating the Thai Pongal festival, which worships and offers thanks to the Sun god. It is observed by the Hindus across the world, with a number of cultural and religious events (See page 41). Our staff photographer roamed around the city capturing some of the moments that include - prayer rituals conducted in kovils, devotee offering prayers at a Hindu temple and a vendor preparing flower garlands ahead of the Thai Pongal festival.
