Jan 1: A reported New Year’s Day stabbing in Passaic turned out to be an intoxicated woman who fell down the stairs, according to police.
Authorities initially investigated facial injuries to a Passaic woman suffered at the Speer Village housing complex around 5:15 a.m. as a stabbing, Deputy Chief Christopher Storzillo said. However, surveillance footage at the scene and exams from the doctors determined she fell down the stairs while intoxicated, Storzillo said.
The nature of the injuries led police to believe it was a stabbing, the deputy chief said.
“From a layman’s perspective, it took doctors to determine the facial injuries are consistent with a fall down the steps,” Storzillo said.
In addition to the facial injuries, the woman also had a collapsed lung. She was not expected to regain consciousness for another day or two, Storzillo said.
