In recognition of Muthiah Muralitharan’s record breaking bowling achievements, Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium should be named as Muthiah Muralitharan Cricket Stadium and this decision has been taken by the Kundasale Pradeshiya Saba at a meeting held recently.
This was stated by Erik Prasanna Weerawardena, the Private Secretary to the Honourble President, Maithripala Sirisena in a letter addressed to Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekera, The naming of this will take place on the 21st of December,2016.
Mr.Weerawardena’s letter further stated that Muralitharan’s father S.Muthiah has also requested from the Honourable President by a letter sent by him on the 3rd of Jaunuary 2017 to name the Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium in his sons name. Weerawardena has further requested from the Secretary of the Ministry of Sports on the 19th of Junuary 2017 to name the Pallekelle grounds on Muthiah Muralitharan’s name. A similar letter relevant to that was sent by D.M. Swaminathan, Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, re-settlement & Religious Affairs to the Minister of Sports on the of September,2017.
Muthiah Muralitharan, a former Test Cricketer was a Legend in the Central Province who is a product of St.Anthony’s College, Katugastota.
Cricket lovers all over the Sri Lanka appreciate the service rendered by Muthiah Muralitharan for cricket to his Country and no Sri Lankan sports loving person will object in naming the Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium under his name.
