Umara’s dream comes true

27 August, 2017

Having more schools for formal study of pop music to enable young talent to develop their gifted acumen in this area, is a long felt need in Sri Lanka’s music industry. To meet this requirement Umara Sinhawansa, no new name in Sri Lanka, launched her studio Umara Music Studio (UMS) recently. Speaking at the launch, Umara rightly commented that “music is a common language that makes us meet each other emotionally and it is indeed a blessing to be gifted with the talent and ability to reach out to many people through music”.

According to her, it was one of her dreams and she is happy that she is able to make her dreams a reality. There is no doubt, there is a vast talent in music in Sri Lanka and what has always been a necessity was channel and develop this talent on the right path.

“At UMS” continued Umara, “it’s about having fun while we do some serious vocal work. I believe that through the work we do, we will soon be able to discover some of the best talent that Sri Lanka has to offer.”

The Umara Music Studio is located at 348/1 Pannipitiya Road, Polwatte, Battaramulla. The course will focus on all aspects of vocal training such as, vocal flexibility, vocal projection, vocal range, pitching, as well as breathing techniques and performance.

A student has the opportunity to follow the six month or the 12 month certificate course. The UMS is fully air-conditioned with rehearsal rooms, changing rooms, waiting room, and play area for children and the now popular WI-FI.

The daughter of popular singers Tony and Ayesha Sinhawansa, Umara has won many awards internationally and had a six year stint in Hong Kong and was a popular figure performing with the band Proteus headed by Dylan Lye.

Good luck Umara on your new venture!
