What struck you at Apana a musical concert held at the Bishop’s College Auditorium was the extent of talent among the children of today, and what was most necessary was the nurturing of this talent to enable the youngsters to make their mark in the industry of the future.
The concert was organised by the Swee School of Music whose director is none other than Lancelot Perera, a former Director of Music of the Sri Lanka Police 
Band. Having brought the Police Band into No. 1 status, Lancelot Perera has to be commended for inoculating the knowledge of playing music with regard to technique and emotion among the young. Because, not only was classical music played by young pianists, the program also contained semi-classical, pop-instrumental and vocals, popular Sinhala and Western songs, as well as Dancing. We all know how today those who want to make a career out of pop music, struggle to get on the right path of playing pop tunes, especially, where chord work is concerned. Lancelot tells us that he has heard many musicians in the pop idiom playing note for note of the original score and getting nonplussed when the key is changed. His school, he claims proudly, sends pupils for examinations and the results have always been successful.
