The management of the Colombo Swimming Club (CSC) expressed concern over the events that took place at its premises in Kolllupitiya on Friday afternoon when the Road Development Authority (RDA) demolished part of the property to acquire land for the next phase of the Colombo Plan Road (Marine Drive). The President of the Colombo Swimming Club, Tony de Livera told the Sunday Observer that they were appalled by the manner in which the RDA officials acted on that particular day.
“We were aware of this project and has been in the pipeline since the time of President J.R. Jayawardene. Never at any point did we say we are not willing to give out our land. However, we had asked for some time in order to iron out some issues that we had and come to an agreement,” de Livera said.
