Hindustani Vocal recital by Pt. Birendra Nath Mishra from India

A Hindustani vocal performance by Pt. Birendra Nath Mishra from India will be held on 30 June at the ICC auditorium, Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7 at 6 pm.

Dr. Birendra Nath Mishra, a well-known artist in the field of Sitar, belongs to the great musician family of ‘Benaras Gharana’ of Pt. Dargahi Mishra, Pt. Bikku Maharaj fame.

He got his training under the guidance of his father Pt. Surendra Mohan Mishra.

At the age of 12 under the able guidance of Prof. Ram Das Chakrovorty and Dr. K C Gangrande from the Music College of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Dr Mishra completed his M.Music and Doctorate of Music.

He is one of the versatile Sitar players who can play both the “Tantrakari” and “Gayaki Ang” on Sitar.

Dr. Birendra Nath Mishra has performed widely in India in major festivals such as Bhatkhande Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroha, Varanasi, Sur Singar Samsad Mumbai, Ganga Mahotsava, Ministry of Culture, Lucknow, Akhil Bhartiya Swami Haridas Sangeet Sammelan, Mumbai, Spirit of Unity Concert for National Integration in Andhra Pradesh and many more.

Dr. Birendra Nath Mishra will be accompanied by his son Abhishek Misra in Tabla. He is one of the leading upcoming table players from the great Benaras Gharana.

He has performed tabla solos with most of the great artistes. He performed in various music festivals national and International levels such as Swami Haridas Sangeet Sammelan, Saptak Festival, Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh, Ganga Mahotsav, Bhatkhande Sangeet Samaroh, Cite de –la Musique Paris Norway Opera, Spirit of Unity concert Austria and Stern Studio Golden Jubilee Ceremony Switzerland.

The event is organized by Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo. All are invited.
