Indian history

Indian History - 2, by Attorney-at-Law P.W. Jayatilleke, a renowned author of historical treatises. The book comprises the history of the Guptha empire, the second most powerful, after the great Ashoka dynasty. The Guptha Empire was established in India in the 4th Century - 500 years after the demise of Emperor Ashoka in 180 BC and his Maurya empire.

The advent of the Ashoka dynasty has an everlasting effect on Sri Lanka, when Emperor Ashoka’s son Mahinda Thera introduced Buddhism to Sri Lanka which was an astounding revelation to the country.

The Guptha dynasty could not survive for more than two centuries from 320 AD and this period is symbolic of the beginning of the Classical Age in which Sanskrit flourished, heralding a rich culture.

The author has taken pains to revive the readers’ interest in history, especially, that of the Indian subcontinent – a vast reservoir of religions, cultures, languages, rituals, superstitions et al. Arumesi
